I knew death was around the corner

In these quiet hours
Not so quiet on the streets
The windows were open
and air filled the room
I knew death was around a corner.

Not yet a body,
But soon to be,
Who knows his shapes?
Who knows his disguises?

I have longed to see
Too often now yet I fear
The windows were open
And there was a chance
A glance, into the depth
I knew death might wait around the corner.

But still not formed,
He would visit soon,
Who can tell me when?
Who can tell me how?

The streets were yet busy,
But the yellow touched the sky,
The windows were still open
And darkness filled the air.
I was ready before
But what I longed to see
Is still what I feared most
Cause I knew death waited around the corner.
